top 10

so, it's that time of year again.  everyone is counting down; days till christmas, the new year, and of course....favorite memories, albums, movies, quotes, clips, ticks and whatever else you can think of.  so in case you were wondering, here's MY favorite things that happened in 2010.

10.  first class upgrades on united.  it really does make flying more fun!
09.  uncovering more 'layers' of the city.  an adventure around every corner!
08. discovering the secret of 'coffee'  who knew it was so good?!
07.  new stamp in my passport!  peru (check!)  new continent (check!)
06.  roger waters and the wall.  no further info needed
05.  turning 30.  with age comes wisdom, and a chance to start a new chapter.
04.  watching 2 of my dear friends getting married and having a wonderful vacation in the bahamas
03.  buying a beautiful home in a beautiful place which means no moving for awhile!!
02.  the christmas tree.  the memories.  the cards.  reconnecting with tradition, old friends, and your roots.
01.  spending another year doing what i love, living life as i want, and being with the love of my life.  priceless.

peruvian blend

it's finally here!  after 8 months, we've finally gotten our poop in a group and made our peru photo book!  i'm not a great scrapbooker, so this project has taken forever.  i love all the new programs and services that make documenting memories a snap!  check it out if you wish, and if you've ever thought about going to peru, i would highly HIGHLY recommend it.  my only regret is that we didn't get to stay longer.  south america is certainly a top destination on our list to explore further.  can't wait to take our next big trip!  however, i definitely need to brush up on my spanish, thank goodness we had our fluent spanish-speaking friend with us on this trip!  of course, when in doubt, take it from paul...just say 'y dos'!

extra social

i attended a 'tweet-up' last night.  for those of you unfamiliar with the term, it's a meeting for people on twitter.  instead of interacting with one another, everyone was on their phones tweeting about the event.  it got me thinking that this new 'social media' craze is anything BUT!  in fact, i think this whole medium of communicating has made people less social altogether.  because i'm in business, one can't help but try to ponder the uses of these new platforms.  how can we leverage these networks for the betterment of business, or for both professional or personal gain.  it's also a little scary to think that there is a lot of information out there that people can tap into.  with all these 'networks' tracking your likes, dislikes, tweets, and updates, it's easier and easier for data to be collected and analyzed.  i think george orwell was certainly onto something.  it's scary and exciting all at the same time!

with christmas just around the corner, i thought it appropriate to spread some holiday cheer.  with all the hustle and bustle, carol overload, and ho ho hoeing, sometimes it's just nice to sit back, relax, and watch your sELF dance around to disco music.

nothing to report

today was one of those days.  i got up, worked, came home, and went to sleep.  a day filled with just 'being'.  by all accounts, practically a boring day.  i find myself enjoying these types of days lately.  it's nice to actually be able to take the time to enjoy grocery shopping, have time to beat traffic home, or even just driving along in silence pondering my thoughts.  no fire drills at home or work.  no need to rush home, be at an event at a certain time, or even attend to immediate e-mails.  a leisurely day with enough hours to accomplish everything that needed to be done; in addition to some simple pleasures of life.  microwave popcorn, homemade chex mix, a fire in the fireplace, our twinkling christmas tree, and me and the moots.  aaaahhhh, life.

from our 'family' to yours

so, it's been 6 years that my boyfriend and i have been together.  without fail, the question of 'when are we getting married' always comes up.  it's as if there is a requirement at some point to tie the knot, regardless if we're happy with our current situation or not.  well, especially at christmas time, it becomes painfully obvious that we're not married, and have no kids.  it's also very apparent that people feel 'sorry' for us.  DON'T!  we love our life.  we love our dogs.  we love the freedom to be passionate about our careers, spend extra money on expensive and delicious dinners, and travel and experience the world.  until we're satisfied with who WE are, we don't see the need to procreate.  maybe we'll get there someday.  maybe not.  until then, it's just us and the moots.  so for this year, our christmas card will probably be the only one you receive with pictures of the dogs.  we hope it makes you smile.

leaf me alone!!

i totally DON'T get it.  what the heck does a leaf blower do anyway?  i see these people just blowing leaves and other stuff all over the place.  at some point, someone has to pick that stuff up, right?  i mean, i guess i get it if they blow it into the street and then the street sweepers come by and sweep it up or something, but that doesn't happen here.  i literally just see these people walking around blowing stuff onto their neighbors lawns, driveways, etc.  what happened to good ol' fashioned hard work?  i raked for 30 minutes the other day.  best upper body workout i've had in awhile.  (i know that's not saying much), but come on!!  an animated depiction is provided. 

do you have a permit for that?

i'm all for being neighborly and all...but where do you draw the line?  in a recent exchange of words, we were informed that our neighbor was not thrilled (to say the least) with the idea of us putting in a heater in the garage.  we've recently renovated our two car garage into a home studio, and well...it's COLD in the winter!  totally legal and within our rights as homeowners, but he had a list of reasons as to why we shouldn't install the thing.  among them...air quality and a potential fire hazard.  agreed.  a fire hazard is a valid concern; however, how many wood burning stoves, fireplaces and fire pits are there in the world?  give me a break.  this was even during the time when we had the contractor over to make sure the vent for the thing was correctly installed.  geesh.  oh...and this comes about 2 weeks after our other neighbors asked us not to park on the street in front of their house.  excuse me..but street parking is public parking.  and someone was parked in front of our house.

getting started

so here it is.  day 1.  it kind of feels like writing in a journal, but with the potential for the world to see.  just an ordinary girl commenting on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  it's december 1st, 2010.  i'm finding myself wondering where november has gone, let alone a whole year.  does time really fly when you're having fun?  well, time certainly flies, but i think it does no matter if you're having fun or not.   here's my profound wisdom of the day.  bird in hand worth two in bush.  compliments of my friend kim sparks.   goodnight world.
